Alex Doyle Headshot.jpg

Alex Doyle has 18 years experience in Violence Reduction in the Education and Mental Health Sector ranging from CAMHS to older adults to medium and high secure services.  He is a former Violence Reduction Lead Practitioner for a NHS Mental Health Trust and a NHS Whistleblower.

 

Alex has a Bsc Hons Neuropsychology, Post graduate qualifications in study of Violence Reduction and is currently studying MSc Enhancing Safety in Care and Custody at Queens College University London. 

Topic: Exploring the Development of Deindividuation and Dissimilarity in Care and Education Settings and the Role this Plays in the Development of Neglectful and Abusive Cultures.

Kazeema Afzal has 18 years experience in the NHS and very much enjoys her job, which has been her family. She recently moved from general to a mental Health ward and for the last 2 years has been working on a PICU ward.

Last year Kazeema was the victim of a very serious incident and nearly lost her life after being attacked by a patient, he got a life sentence. However it should never have happened and could have been avoided if the rules were different.”

Topic: Kazeema will speak about her experience and changes needed.

Dean is a registered mental health nurse, and chartered manager. He holds a masters degree in law, a postgraduate diploma in nursing, and a diploma in leadership and management.

Dean is recognised as an expert and innovator across the sector in the UK and USA helping clients solve the most complex challenges.

Topic: Addressing Mechanical Restraints. Information on Version 2 of the RRN Training Standards and the process of certification and the difference between the 3 charities, RRN, BILD and BILD ACT. What assessors expect to see from people who wish to slot soft/mechanical restraint products into their certified training curricula.

Iain Harbison

A Registered Mental Health Nurse of 27 years experience, Iain Harbison worked for well over a decade in the field of violence prevention and reduction, including on a national level with NHS England and Improvement and in academia at the University of South Wales, UCLan and Cumbria University. Iain has co-published several papers on violence prevention and reduction including the Ministry of Justice commissioned review into the evidence base around restraint related death. Iain continues to work in the mental health specialty both within the NHS and independent sector.

Jim Warring

Jim Warring is the Law Enforcement Engagement Director at Grand Lake Mental Health in Oklahoma. Prior to this he had a 30+ year law enforcement career, which included Kansas Department of Corrections and Bartlesville Oklahoma Police Department as a sergeant of the detective division. Jim worked in every aspect of law enforcement including SWAT, patrol, inmate transports, mental health transports, investigations, and as a public information officer and has B.S. degree in Business Management and is a certified CLEET and CIT officer. 

 

Jim is an instructor for Mental Health First Aid, and a PRSS. His role as a liaison between mental health and law enforcement was the first of its kind in the US. His roles included critical incident debriefing, instructing LE, CIT, managing mental health transports and 988 teams across 13 counties in NE Oklahoma, and direct service to city, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement.

Jim is a proud veteran of the United States Airforce, serving during Desert Storm. He and his wife Nancy have 5 children and enjoy travel and camping.

David Breakspeare

Session title: ‘Behind these walls’

David spent four decades trapped in the revolving doors of crisis and crime.

He entered the school to prison pipeline aged 14, and in June 2017, he was released from his ninth and final custodial sentence. Since then, he has been using his lived experience to influence much needed change.

David is a lived experience team member at the charity Revolving Doors, and at the Samaritans, he is also a lived experience influencer at the National Suicide Prevention Alliance. Alongside those roles, David is an ambassador for 5asideCHESS, ADHD Liberty and Awaken Genius.

In November last year, he was presented with a St Martin's Challenge Award for his work with Revolving Doors.

Founder & Director of S.I.S - Strength In Struggles CIC and Speaker & Advocate for Mental Health and Author of 'Police to Paranoia' Retired Police Officer.

With over two decades in law enforcement and recent experience supporting victims of crime and terrorism, Rebecca's journey has been dedicated to public service and advocating for mental health. At Victim Support, her role as a Multi Crime/Terrorist Caseworker equipped her with the skills to handle sensitive cases with compassion and professionalism.

Rebecca's transition from serving as an officer to now empowering others through peer-to-peer support groups reflects her lifelong commitment to resilience and recovery. The positive impact of her book "Police to Paranoia" inspires her ongoing guest speaking engagements, where sharing her unique perspective contributes to a broader understanding of mental health challenges within high-stress professions.

Bernard Allen B.A. (Psych), P.G.C.E., D.A.E.S., C.M.I.E.W.

My professional qualifications include a degree in Psychology, a PGCE, and a Diploma in Advanced Special Educational Needs.

I am also a Certified Member of the Expert Witness Institute. I have 30 years of experience working with colleagues in specialist educational and residential provision for children with learning disabilities.

For 12 years, I served as a School Principal, leading three successful residential schools. I have also developed courses in risk reduction and positive behaviour management as a principal trainer and now work as an educational consultant, having trained thousands of workers in education and residential care settings across the world over the past two decades.

I trained as an advanced trainer in Control & Restraint in the 1990s and was a trustee of the General Services Association in the early 2000s. I currently work as an expert witness in cases involving the prevention and management of work-related violence. Additionally, I am a non-executive director of TeamTeach Ltd and a director of the Institute of Conflict
Management.”
